The Cross of St. Kosmas Aitolos in Polydendri

It was the custom of St. Kosmas Aitolos, when he visited a village and preached, to make a Cross from a local tree to hold while he preached and to leave it behind as a reminder to them that they are Christians and they should not forget his message.

In the photos and video is the Cross of St. Kosmas from the village of Polydendri which is kept in the Sacred Metropolis of Beroia, but on Thursday 8 August 2013 it was brought back to Polydendri by His Eminence Metropolitan Panteleimon of Beroia, Naousa and Kampania to allow the locals to venerate the Holy Cross and remind them of this historical event, as the heirloom was meant to do. His Eminence served the Divine Liturgy, and in his sermon he promised to bring this Cross back to this village every year in commemoration of the visit of St. Kosmas and for his blessing upon the village and villagers.
