St. Alexander of Thessaloniki (Feast Day - November 7) |
Verses
In the land of Thessaloniki Alexander produced a shoot,
Beheaded in the contest he spread out shoots.
Beheaded in the contest he spread out shoots.
This Holy Martyr contested during the reign of Emperor Maximian in the year 298, and was from the great city of Thessaloniki. Standing before the judgement seat of the tyrant, because he had kicked over the sacrificial altar to the idols, and scattered the demonic offerings and sacrifices that were on it, he was sentenced to be beheaded, and by this the renowned one received the crown of martyrdom.
