The Location of the Martyrdom of Saint Isidore of Chios

In the year 251, during the reign of Emperor Decius, Saint Isidore was beheaded for his faith in Christ on the island of Chios. According to the tradition handed down on the island of Chios, his martyrdom took place in the village of Neochori, at the spot where the church dedicated to his name is located today. It is said that the trees of the area wept at his martyrdom, which became the source of the famous mastic trees, able to grow only here and nowhere else in the world.
