Venerable John of Rufinianes (Feast Day - March 16) |
Verses
We honor the departure of John,
Who appears to go dwell with God.
Who appears to go dwell with God.
Venerable John of Rufinianes met his end in peace.
Rufinianes, or Roufinianae, or Roufianais, was a monastery established by Rufinus in the fourth century who had come to Chalcedon from Rome. This monastery in Chalcedon was populated by Rufinus with monks from Egypt. When Rufinas died, he was buried at this monastery, and the monks there left and returned to their homeland, causing the monastery to go to ruins. It was reestablished by Hypatios, who is commemorated on June 17th, in the early fifth century. The identity of Venerable John, whom we commemorate today, is not known.
