Below the village of Afionas, in the northern part of the island of Kerkyra is one of the most remote and inaccessible beaches of Kerkyra, Porto Timoni. To reach Porto Timoni you take one of the two paths that start from the village and reach the destination with two beaches.
On the road to the end of the peninsula that leads to the beach is the Chapel of Saint Stylianos, carved into a cave, which houses the icon of Saint Stylianos.
According to local legend, the location was indicated by Saint Stylianos himself. A shepherd looking for one of his lost sheep discovered the icon of the Saint among branches. However, the next day and after he had placed it in the church of the village so that all its inhabitants could venerate it, the icon disappeared, everyone believing that someone had stolen it. The shepherd found it once again in the same place he originally found it, and the villagers agreed to keep it at the place where it was discovered for the first time by the shepherd, that is, in the cave where it is still today.
Near the chapel are the ruins of the stone house where a priest used to live.
